I want to share some New Years Good News: I will be returning to CivicLex to serve as their first-ever Civic Information Specialist! This role will be similar to our previous AmericorpsVISTA news reporters, but will be the first traditional full-time staff position focusing on City Hall coverage, as well as working to expand our news operations over the next year and beyond. After a year serving in a very limited contract role, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to rejoin the team full-time and continue our work to make City Hall happenings accessible to all of Lexington.
This does sadly mean that I will be leaving my role at the University of Kentucky. I am thankful to have spent 2023 on an amazing team of First-Gen Student Advisors. When I started in March 2023, the team consisted of myself and one other advisor. As of writing, we have four advisors (including myself) and are hiring for two additional positions. I am thrilled that the team is growing, as they have done incredible work helping First-Gen students chart their path to success at UK. I want to thank Dr. Leah Vance-Berg, Dr. Robert Hayes, Alexis Meza de los Santos, and (soon-to-be Dr.!) Kayla Gill for all the support they have given me during my time at the University.
2024 is going to be a big year for CivicLex, and I can’t wait to be a small part of it. See you all in Council Chambers!
